Phonetics and Phonology:
In this course, students will study the sounds of English and the principles governing their production and perception. Phonetics focuses on the physical properties of speech sounds, such as articulation, airflow, and resonance, while phonology examines the abstract linguistic structures underlying the sounds of language, including phonemes, syllable structure, and stress patterns. Through practical exercises, transcription tasks, and analyses of spoken language samples, students will develop their ability to accurately perceive, produce, and analyze English sounds, improving their pronunciation and phonetic awareness.
Foreign Language (FL) II: Pre-Intermediate:
Building on the foundation laid in the first semester, this course continues students’ exploration of a foreign language, further developing their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students will progress from basic to more complex language structures and vocabulary, focusing on everyday communication and practical language use. Depending on the language chosen, students may study grammar, vocabulary, cultural topics, and engage in interactive activities such as role-plays, dialogues, and language games to reinforce their learning and fluency.
EAP III (Essay and Report Writing):
This course focuses on academic writing skills, particularly essay and report writing, in English for academic purposes (EAP). Students will learn the conventions of academic writing, including structuring essays and reports, developing coherent arguments, incorporating evidence, and citing sources. Through guided writing tasks, workshops, peer feedback, and instructor guidance, students will refine their writing proficiency and critical thinking skills, preparing them for academic writing tasks at higher levels of study.
